 Poutini Waitaiki

Poutini is a taniwha. He discovers a woman by the name of Waitaiki. He Loves her and wants her for himself. So he takes her and heads to the south island. Her husband Tamaahua is angry! He uses a tekateka to find out where they are (magic). So he chases Poutini around the country trying to find Waitaiki. 

Poutini wants Waitaiki for himself so he turns her into pounamu and rests her up the Arahura river. Poutini now cruises along the coastline where he protects his precious pounamu. Arahura river is where Poutini took Waitaiki so he can keep her to himself. Tamaahua was sad about Waitaiki, that she was turned into pounamu. He’s very sad that he won’t see her again because there is not a way to turn her back to her human. This is one part of Maori history, but the river, Arahura river, is still real. Waitaiki is pounamu, and you can find her as pounamu.
